The Atherton Tablelands in the mountain hinterland above Cairns has magnificent flowing single tracks, family trails, epic mountain bike rides and scenic back country road rides.
This cool plateau, one hour to the west, is an ideal self-drive destination. The region is famous for spectacular waterfalls, tropical rainforests, outback escarpments, wildlife, agriculture and gourmet produce, and has a range of accommodation. Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park has an exciting network of some 55km of trails, located just 2km from Atherton’s main street at the top of Rifle Range Road.
These trails will be expanded to connect with a network of internal roads such as State Forestry and fire roads creating cycle routes to eventually link key towns across the Atherton Tablelands. Davies Creek Mountain Bike Park, just east of Mareeba, is a mixture of 21km of fire roads and single tracks which can be ridden in its entirety or in sections. The trails are within State Forest and close to Davies Creek National Park and Dinben State Forest.
